Am I a Healer? – A Conversation with Heath Ledger

H: Hello.
K: Hey, handsome. I’ve been seeing you in the background of life. How are things?
H: Things are great. They’re really good. (pats the arms of the chair) How about you?
K: In general, things are super great. Just this whole energy that’s hitting. It’s weird and my body isn’t used to it, and it’s created a bunch of anxiety and it’s in waves. It’s not always there but there are moments where it feels very overwhelming.
H: I…(shifts and brings an ankle over a knee, bouncing his foot a little bit) I see that and I feel that happening with you…just because you allow me to. I think that it’s important for anyone that is feeling…differently or they’re feeling like something is about to shift…a lot of anxiety for people right now is that they are feeling something is in the air but they focus on that anticipation and not just allowing and so the anticipation creates this anxiety or this excitement which crashes when mixed up with expectations.
K: Like all these dreams are going to come true…wishes are coming true because there is something in the air.
H: For the most part, this is what these energies are bringing with them but it gets humanized when…just as much as the energy is flowing towards a person is just as much as they need to…let go and let the current take them.
K: That’s good advice. I mean, if something feels completely off, get it checked out.
H: Oh…yeah. Absolutely. Listen to the body.
K: With the anticipation or the anxiety…lots of very, very high-pitched ear ringing too.
H: Yeah…(nods) I’m not surprised.
K: I feel like energy work would really help people with these energies that are flowing in and out because I feel like it’s not only flowing in and flooding but it’s also an exchange. Like, a give and receive type thing or replacing because the other energy was quite old and to take that away, it needs to be filled with something else or shit will hit the fan.
H: (grins) Um…isn’t that happening already?
K: Don’t even get me started, Heath. Do not even get me started. I was so mad.
H: A lot of people are mad. Anyway…that’s a big other conversation that we’ll just pick up and move to the side so we can talk about something a bit lighter than that. Remember when the topics would be heavier?
K: I mean…who doesn’t like a really deep and profound conversation?
H: There are quite a few people that shy away from heavier and profound now.
K: Hhhmmm…agreed.
H: World shaking stuff is unpleasant.
K: Yes.
H: Did you get my text?
K: I did. Thank you for that. Speaking of energy and energy work and flowing in and out…let’s talk about this idea of being a healer for a moment.
H: Great. (rubs his hands together)
K: What is a healer, Heath Ledger? Tell me.
H: (big grin) It’s simple. Holding space for individuals to heal. Honestly, the real healer doesn’t do much. They have their modalities, and they have their advice. But ultimately, the healer holds space for another person’s healing and supporting that with whatever modality they practice.
K: Wow. Holding space for someone to heal. That’s amazing. That’s in line with something that I read to differentiate the true…I guess…definition of being a healer and someone who jut talks about it…
H: That’s the difference. When a person has to talk and convince and sell and make all these empty promises about what they can do, it’s more that…they are trying to convince themselves of what they are capable of because they don’t really trust it…yet. That dies down. All that talking…when people find their own worth in their healing capabilities…that ego voice sort of turns into a whisper and the energy of magnetism takes hold instead. When you’re in the energy of the magnet, you can attract to you, or you can repel what won’t create a mutual benefit because a healer…there is a mutual benefit. The ones that are trying to convince others that they are a real healer, and they can get rid of all these ailments…whatever they are, in someone else…there is no mutual benefit there. It’s just someone that needs to heal their own needs for power or validation.
K: Okay. Yeah. I see that. But that whole preaching about being a healer or what they can do…I don’t see that a lot anymore. I mean, for sure, healers advertise to put the word out there…
H: Advertising is more about turning the inner magnet outward to see what potential mutual benefits will come forward. Yes, you do have to put yourself out there so people know what you do in terms of healing but then, just like you would give space to a client to…give the client the choice in that space you create to heal…you let it go. You share your space…you share the modality and then you let it go where it needs to go. Sometimes, what’s unlocked is a healing moment between the practitioner and the client and that’s really something amazing.
K: Yes. For sure.
H: When a person asks themselves if they are a healer but the answer that comes through is more questions or that person feels the need to…play a part because it’s very popular, then that person is not quite there yet. But even asking the question, am I a healer is a big starting place. It’s a place of remembering the tiniest unlocked memory of a different time and place and considering taking the leap to reconnect with that.
K: What stops that remembering or the reconnection?
H: Being convinced that the healing someone does, has to look like or compete with someone else and what they provide. That brings the healer into an area that is more of a retail space than a sacred space. (laughing a little bit)
K: Business is business, Heath.
H: I understand that completely.
K: You said something on the walk today that was interesting. (he joined me on my daily walk)
H: What part?
K: The part where you said that healers support the creators.
H: And the creators support the healers.
K: The mutual.
H: Yes.
K: Why are you showing me a locker room after a rugby game? I mean…I really don’t mind the image.
H: (laughing) Because I want to share it in terms of sports…the team, comes off the field after the game and the first aid…physio…therapist that support the players’ bodies…come in and make sure the players are okay so…if there are any injuries, they are treated or fixed so the player can go back out on the field for the next game. If that support wasn’t there, the player may convince themselves that they can just walk it off but create more of an injury in the next game.
K: Got it.
H: Creators need the healers. Doctors need the nurses but nurses also need the doctors so they are both in good form to give that whole care to the patient.
K: Then, here’s a question for you.
H: Okay.
K: What if you’re both?
H: I will be honest with you and say that a lot of healers are also creators and they don’t know it yet. If we’re talking in terms of energy.
K: Okay.
H: Healing isn’t fixing anything. Not necessarily. Its main focus is to support a person in their own fixing. Let’s take a doctor. They can’t necessarily heal anything. They can support the healing with casts…medicines…x-rays…surgeries…whatever it is. They can support a person’s healing by intervening and offering different supports. They fix things…the put broken things back together but the healing comes from the person that came broken. It’s still that space being held for the individual to heal themselves. Same with the energy work. If anyone says that by using their hands, they can take away something from another so they are healed…that isn’t the most moral stance. They can offer that energetic cast…splint…vitamin…but it’s up to the client to heal.
K: I feel like…I mean, there are healers that do that spontaneous healing thing.
H: (laughs) Very few and far between and the lineups that occur are from people who are either scared and just want an ailment fixed without doing the work…or there are the people that have sought out so much to support their healing and this is a last ditch effort. What rarely comes into play with these things is the destiny involved…the life path with all its twists and turns. There are certain situations and ailments that people go through to gain an understanding and a wisdom about life that they wouldn’t gain if they didn’t have to go through something. But with the support from a healer, it makes it easier.
K: What if you ask the question, am I a healer and…it’s like a curiosity but you’re not really up to starting any sort of modality or therapeutic space?
H: You still hold space. A healer isn’t always the healing profession. It’s the person…it’s the soul. It’s the friend that you have coffee with and exchange thoughts…ideas…frustrations and feel better for it. It’s the boss that gives the employee the afternoon off because they notice that the employee has a lot going on at home. It’s the grandma who offers the grandchild a freshly baked cookie. It’s the bartender that cuts off the drunk and arranges a cab home so no harm comes to them. It’s the librarian who suggests a book that answers all the questions. It’s the teacher that notices a student struggling in school and instead of reprimanding…asks if everything is okay. There are so many healers with so many different faces and so many different ways of doing things. A healer is a holder of space to allow the healing to take place.
K: Do you find that people who go to “healers”…it can be very…almost like raw. Like what opens or what is taken away can be very jolting and now the client is in a space of what the actual arf…
H: (grins) There are healers that have no idea how powerful they are. Always great to set intention. Physicians have notes. They have a plan. That’s the intention. The acupuncturist…looks at the symptoms…they have a plan…the intention. Energy workers…listen to what the client is saying, see or feel the blockages…make that intention to remove them. A healer’s work is very intentional, so a would-be healer needs to ask…what’s my intention. Is my intention to convince my client of my value or is my intention to co-create with the energy I’m feeling, hold space, and allow that energy to go where it’s needed with compassion and care.
K: That makes a lot of sense.
H: I want to be a millionaire…not the best of intentions. God persona…complex…not the best of intentions. That is the outcome of using the best of intentions and rising from the bottom up. The best healers take the time to travel to where supportive healing isn’t always accessible and getting down to that level and doing it in the trenches. Because a healer doesn’t mind…they crave…to rise high or go low so that mutual exchange and benefit is what’s most important and what’s shared. Not so much the prestige.
K: Wow. (jokingly rolling my eyes) I guess we have to use the “level” (finger quote) analogy sometimes.
H: Yes. We do. I know how much you cringe.
K: I do.
H: Well, a healer will always expand in or out depending on where they’re met from another. The magnet.
K: The magnet. So great.
H: It’s great.
K: Is the “healing” (finger quote) getting bigger?
H: I don’t think it’s getting bigger. I think it’s always been at the number that it was meant to. I think people are just remembering more and when they remember more…compassion grows, and more space is held for that mutual exchange of compassion in action.
K: (smiles) I love it. Compassionate action.
H: Compassionate action. (nods and starts singing ‘what the world needs now, is love sweet love’)
K: Oh man…I don’t even have the words.
H: I know what you’re saying and what you want to say but you’ve never been out of words. I do give my heart to what’s happening there. I really do. I sometimes wish that…(pausing) that putting the world upright again didn’t come at such a cost sometimes…you know?
K: It’s heartbreaking.
H: But hey, we’ll hold that space because even healing doesn’t have to be face to face. It can go anywhere because it’s the breath, right?
K: Yes.
H: So, take a big breath, jump into faith and trust that things will turn right-side up in your upside-down world because the upside down is very temporary. Hold the intention, visualize…and let that go…
K: And flow.
H: Yeah. And flow. Too many blockades and damns have been built. Way too many.
K: Agreed. Anything else on healers?
H: I think that’s good. You?
K: I’m good. Thank you, Heath. As always…I love you.
H: I love you. By the way…things are…hoppin’ here. Can you feel it?
K: I am…a bit. It’s good.
H: It’s amazing. Have a good rest of your day. I will usher in the next.
K: Not so fast. It’s the weekend. I’ll have to see how much space I can hold.
H: (laughs) That’s fair. Just say when.
K: Bye.
H: Bye.
Gone.
